Format: 4 rounds FIDE-rated Standard (60m + 30s)
Pairings system: Swiss

Capacity: 16 players (rated 2199 or less)
Entry fee: Rated players – KES 500; Unrated players – KES 1,000

Prizes

  • 1st Place – KES 2,800 cash
  • 2nd Place – KES 2,400 cash
  • 3rd Place – KES 1,800 cash
  • Best Unrated Player – KES 1,500 cash
  • Best University Player – KES 1,500 cash

Rules, regulations, and notes:

  1. Players must have a FIDE standard rating of 2199 or less or be unrated to be able to participate in this tournament.
  2. Players will be ranked according to their FIDE standard ratings or alphabetically before the start of Round 1.
  3. Pairings and results of every round will be published on Chess-Results.com.
  4. Players will be required to record their moves from beginning to end as per FIDE laws. Scoresheets will be provided by the organiser but players must bring their own pens.
  5. If a player wishes to withdraw from the tournament at any stage, he/she or his/her parents (for minors) must inform the chief arbiter before the next round is paired.
  6. Players must not have any electronic devices (mobile phones, tablets, Kindles, etc.) on them while their games are on. These can be handed over to the arbiter or kept in the player’s bag after being switched off. If a player’s phone rings in the middle of a round, he/she will immediately forfeit the game.
  7. Cash prizes will not be shared. If players are tied on points at the end of the tournament, tie-break systems will be applied in the following order:
    1. Direct encounter (results of players in the same point group)
    2. Greater number of victories (inclusive of forfeit points)
    3. Buchholz
    4. Buchholz (less worst result)
    5. Sonneborn-Berger
  8. For the Best University Player, Best Female Player, and Best Junior Player (U18) prizes to be awarded, there will need to be at least three players each from these categories.
  9. A player will receive only one prize based on his/her final ranking after 4 rounds. Example: If the highest ranked unrated player is also the highest ranked university player, he/she will receive the Best Unrated Player prize and the next best university player will receive the Best University Player prize.
  10. Prize winners must be present at the closing ceremony to receive their prizes.
  11. Covid protocols will be observed at the tournament venue. Players and spectators are requested to keep their masks on at all times.
